The sheer trend, dominating the runway and red carpet during spring/summer 2023, has slowly taken some more wearable forms, relevant for the use of all of us in real life. You can pull it off with a sheer panel dress, or a sheer top, combined with a pair of jeans. You can also pair a see-through top with a skirt. What to wear underneath? Whether it be a full length dress, a tiny top, a bikini, or just underwear – that’s entirely up to you.
The sheer dress trend
You can see it everywhere this season. Either on the runway or on red carpets – it’s the perfect sexy go-to celebrity choice: the sheer dress. It is edgy, young and sexy, and it seems to have replaced the little black dress for celebrities like Emily Ratajkowski, Dua Lipa and Bella Hadid.
The sheer dress comes in all kinds of shapes and colors. Just recently Irina Shayk wore a completely see-through bodycon mini dress, also embellished with rosettes, on her Italian vacation. Dua Lipa truly aced the trend on the Barbie movie’s pink carpet, wearing a sleeveless, sheer chainmail dresss. Furthermore, this Grammy winner showed how seriously she is taking the trend just a few days ago, adding see-through boots to her see-through dress and achieving a white sheer total look – top to bottom!
But it doesn’t end there. During the Wilderness Festival at Cornbury Park in Oxfordshire, Florence Pugh took her red carpet looks a step further, with her new adaption to the trend. Now in the form of a see-through neon green bodysuit, worn over a hot pink bikini set, and matched with fuzzy shades and a cowboy hat.
The sheer reality of the trend
Luckily for all of us, fashion brands have also adopted this trend of cover, hide and expose. Moreover, they have created their own versions of more wearable and affordable items.
Sheer paneling or semi-sheer clothes, exposing just a tad, is one option:
For those of us, who are a little more bold – there are also options that fully cover only the upper part of the body:
And finally – if you choose to dare – you can go all the way with this see-through look:
Some outfit ideas
To get that edgy look yourself, you can wear a see-through dress, layered over a solid color one. Then just pair it with some matching heels.
For a little more casual look – you can wear the trend with a pair of jeans:
You can even use a single see-through item only. Either a skirt or a unique top will do the job. Just combine one of those in your look to spice it up. You’d then be ready to unleash your x-factor!
And the best news is that this trend will carry on into the fall. Whether it be romantic lace or classic mesh – the sheer clothing items will accompany us during the transitional weather.
So what are you waiting for? We dare you to try this trend!
